PUNTA CORAL PRIVATE RESERVE

The Endangered Tropical Dry Forest

Sustainable Tourism Property

Punta Coral Private Reserve is located at the most eastern tip ofthe Peninsula of Nicoya , on the Pacific side of Costa Rica . It consists of 30 acres of protected Tropical Dry Forest . There are no roads leading to the property and no electricity.

For the last 24 years it has been privately owned and jealously protected from development. Punta Coral is surrounded three sides by water, and accessible only by boat. This gives the property a feeling of being an island Eight years ago it was opened to the public with the idea to educate the guests of this delicate ecosystem. There is only 2% of the Tropical Dry Forest remaining in the world today.

Connected to the mainland makes Punta Coral a perfect place to visit the many animals, over 250 species of mammals and birds, that call the Tropical Dry Forest home and feed on the many delicious fruit bearing and flowering trees and plants. Privately Owned means privately funded and this is accomplished with daily tours.

Punta Coral offers your clients a day on the water with the use of kayaks and snorkel equipment and a totally private area; a safe beach for swimming, four walking trails and a fabulous seafood lunch with live music, elegantly served where there is complete protection from the sun.

Some clients are older and it is especially nice for those who want to stay near the ocean but do not want to partake in the water activities. They watch entertained as the “younger crowd” enjoys the kayaks, snorkeling and swimming. They stay protected from the sun; sitting around the Mango Bar sipping ice cold tropical cocktails or at tables playing games, reading books or napping in the many hammocks under a giant palm thatched covered area close to the water's edge over looking the ocean and surrounded by the protected forest.

We feel that this special property is a great example of what the future of tourism should be. The property protected and unchanged for the enjoyment of future generations. Mother Nature in all her splendor uncontaminated and elegantly simple, a perfect example of what sustainable tourism means.

We all must make a conscious effort to protect what little is left of the small independent properties for the enjoyment of future generations. Calypso . is doing just that and working with Foundation Earth for the preservation and protection of the last remaining Tropical Dry Forest .
